Food, Inc.

So, Audrey and I went to the library on Monday. Hellllooo 2011. After paying a hefty fee from our 2010 check-outs, we vowed to make Monday our official, weekly, library day. This week our focus was on Lewis and Clark, horses (of course!), and Food, Inc. on DVD.

We all watched Food, Inc. and I think it was a real eye opener for us all. I have been on the organic bandwagon for years, but have decided more changes are necessary. I think we, as a family, are pretty excited. Information and knowledge are empowering and I've enjoyed watching my girls' reaction to this film. Knowing where your food comes from and how it is raised is important.

Hopefully, this brand new year will bring healthy, life long changes in our choices. At the end of the film, it said (something like), "You can vote three times a day." Meaning, we vote at the check out at the grocery store. The food we consume on a daily basis sends messages to the companies about what consumers want. Again, empowering.

I'm excited and really hope that as we sit down as a family and plan our meals for the upcoming week (something we always do together), we think about-feedlots, organics, wild, farm raised, local, seasonal, genetically modified, labels,... I thought planning meals was hard. Maybe this won't make it harder, but offer guidelines that may make it easier to make our choices and decisions about how and where to spend our money and on what we are going to put in our bodies.
