1-11-11

What today is like for my girls and me:

It is Tuesday, January 11, 2011. It is a snow day for Miss. Ava! I love early January days with snow. It is just so perfect.

The bad news: Audrey has been running a good fever for two days. Ava has slept this afternoon away. I'm thinking she has a bit of what her sister has. I'm not feeling too good myself.

I piddled most of the day away. I made (and froze) a batch of pumpkin waffles. My dear Ava asked to help. She stirred the dry ingredients, but not before telling me that she in fact, does NOT like pumpkin waffles. I tried convincing her that she does like them. She then said, "Mom, I HAVE had pumpkin waffles and they are painful!". I think that sums up my cooking entirely.

I also made hummus and still need to chop up some veggies to go with it. See, I AM trying to make some good dietary changes! That said, two nights ago, I made a devil's food white out cake. It is seriously the most amazing cake I've ever made. My icing didn't turn out quite right because my thermometer wasn't working properly. I think I may just try to make the icing by itself to see if I can make a success out of it. I foresee this cake with homemade strawberry ice-cream for my August birthday. Yum!

I've been on a BIG redecorating kick. I ran out of space so I moved things around and now I have so much space, it seems a little empty in areas. I don't care. I've really been wanting a buffet for years. Now that I have space for one, maybe I'll find one that I love and can afford. Change feels good. I think I got a little too comfortable in my surroundings and a tad bored. My home was in a kind of "finished" phase. It had ceased to grow, so now I am starting a-fresh (in some areas). I'm excited. I'm still choosing what to keep, pitch, and re-use in new and interesting ways. Yay, 2011!

*Sidenote-this aspect of my personality destroys my husband! I've rearranged his comfort. He fusses at first, but eventually gets on board. He even helps because he knows if he doesn't, I'll take matters into my own hands and (heaven forbid!) hammer a nail in crooked or scratch the hardwood floor with my "no upper body strength" method for moving furniture.

For thinking this was going to be the size of a facebook post, I now realize I had a lot more to say. Well, I'm off to take temperatures and rearrange the blankets covering my feverish children. Get well sweetlings. Momma loves you!
