I've been craving the outdoors so on Saturday we went to Cliff Cave Park and looked at the swollen Mississippi River. We also went on a tiny hike in the woods. Ava was a bit scared and wanted to be carried the entire time. I think being surrounded by woods and all of the sounds was a bit frightening.
We spent the rest of the day working in the yard. It didn't feel like work, it was a lot of fun planting all of my latest acquisitions. We went to the bar for a lateish dinner in the courtyard. The weather was absolutely perfect!
Sunday was of course, Mother's Day. Eric bought me a chai from Starbuck's before heading to church. He ran sound and I helped in kid's church for the first time. It was nice-the kids went to "big church" to sing a couple of songs before the congregation.
Later, we went to Bee Tree and did another little hike after looking at the Mississippi from the Chub Overlook. Ava stopped in her tracks at the entrance to the woods and Eric had to pick her up. She was a bit scared, but got braver as we walked. She started looking out into the woods growling like a lion and that's when I finally understood her 2 year old's fear. She associated the woods with wild animals and the poor thing expected a ferocious animal to appear and attack us!
The hike ended at the lake where we watched lots of turtles poking their heads about. We backtracked through the woods and Ava seemed to really enjoy herself.
