Yesterday and Today

Yesterday: Audrey missed her first day of school due to a icky, yet manageable, head cold. She gave the house a makeover in some feisty Halloween decorations. She also made an appearance at the local nursery to select our first orange pumpkin of the year. We already have a green and white one. Ava wants me to carve the face of Jesus in the white one. Where does she come up with this stuff?!

I bought a pie pumpkin and am going to cook it as soon as I'm finished with this. I found a new pumpkin tart recipe and the most exciting part (next to all the bourbon that goes into it) is I get to use my rectangle tart pan. I tell you, rectangle tart pans are the shit.

Also noteworthy, the Cardinals played the Rangers in the first game of the World Series. We won! I loved watching the game, but I couldn't shake the thought/feeling of how strange it was to have my hometown team in the World Series. I think the importance and significance of it all really hit me. I LOVE St. Louis. Like Tootie, in Meet Me in St. Louis says, "Wasn't I lucky to be born in my favorite city?" Indeed.

The weather has finally turned chilly. I convinced Eric to turn the heat on using our daughters as the excuse. They never want to get out of bed in the morning and a cold bedroom would make them even more less likely to want to get up. My argument worked and now he has three happy girls. Even better than the heat being turned on, is the fireplace. We burned our first fire of the season. I can't wait for more.

Today: Yay! Such a fun day. I took a fly fishing casting class with Sarah. Craig, from T. Hargrove, took us to Tilles Park and we practiced and learned and messed up and laughed. I immediately felt like it was fate when he placed me next to a bald cypress at the lake. I'm obsessed with planting one in our yard.

I really did learn, and man, whipping that line through the air is great fun. Maybe I'll tackle my lassoing skills next. This class totally made me realize that there's no going back. I love it. I think I wrote about this before, but when Ava casts, she always yells, "LASSO!!". Lassoing fish. Yes.
