Christmas Eve 2009

Could Christmas Eve be the best day of the year? I love all of the anticipation and excitement. Tomorrow is the big day, but today is full of eagerness, excitement, and jolliness. I have noticed that the people I've encountered over the past couple of weeks have been exceedingly kind, smiling, and full of good cheer. I'm beginning to sound like a greeting card-but I can't help it! After all, it IS the most wonderful time of the year!

We're going to Eric's cousin Stephanie's tonight. Although we usually host Christmas Eve at our house, it is nice to have a year off. This year, we can just sit around and relax until we have to leave for the party. "All is calm, all is bright" with us right now.

We have had a lovely holiday season. The girls and I have made: homemade vanilla marshmallows, peppermint bark, spritz cookies, chocolate chip cookies, cranberry and white chocolate cookies (with brandy!), these little pretzel, rollo, pecan thingys, and brownies in the shape of trees with peppermint stick trunks.

I also made Tiramisu for the first time and I just noticed that it is SUPER runny. Fun. I love taking baking mistakes to holiday parties! I thought about just spooning the Tiramisu into my mini trifle bowls and just serving it like that (with a spoon!). Eric was against the idea... Yes, I much prefer his idea of serving the dessert with an explanation and an apology to our family and people we've never met.

Oh well. Maybe I'll sneak into the kitchen anyway. Regardless, my hair is wet and we have to leave in an hour.
