Night Hike

This week I received night hike training. It was very interesting. We didn't get to go on a hike due to the rain and the slick trails. It was still a great experience. Hiking at night definitely takes me out of my comfort zone. I want to do one. I wonder if it becomes less scary. Here are some of the things I learned and activities to do as well.

Rhodopsin helps with nightvision. It takes 45 minutes for it to come into full effect. One look at light, ruins it and you have to start all over.

Cones-color
Rods-black, white, grey

Stalk Walk-step on outside of ball of foot and then roll back to heel.

Touch- hold rock in hand, memorize it, mix it with other rocks, find your original rock.
Feel object in bag, use an adjective to describe it-turtle shell, male turkey leg

Hear- cup hands around ears like a deer and try to listen.

Wintergreen mint sparks in the dark.

Draw on paper in dark. Guess crayon color, draw horizontal line, write name and name of color of crayon, circle: eyes, smile, nose, hair, ears
Square: triangle on top, door, two windows, chimney, smoke

Why do pirates wear an eye patch? To protect their night vision.
