Fourth of July, 2009

Looking down the week, spying the Fourth of July (on a Saturday this year) we had no plans. It was both a little disappointing and also exciting-no plans! The holiday was wide open with possibilities!

Friday was Audrey's last day at horsecamp. We all drove out to Greensfelder Stables to watch Audrey in her horse show. Me, Eric, my folks, Eric's folks, Ava, Madeline, and Faith were her cheering section. I loved watching my girl up on her horse. I hope to enroll her in lessons so that she can really take off. Nothing gives her as much joy as being on and around horses.

Friday night we went to Jefferson Barracks Park for the big fireworks display. It was our family, Beth and her girls, Julie and her two, my mom, and Mark King. We had such a perfect night. The fireworks were set off in the East- right on the Mississippi River. The moon was full-just peeking out from behind the clouds.

Saturday was lovely as well. We had brunch at The Blue Owl in Kimmswick. We sat out on the covered porch and enjoyed a rainy morning. Afterwards, we walked over to the Sweet Shop-a new place the owner of The Blue Owl recently opened. We were too full to eat, but we couldn't resist peeking around-planning our return trip.

In the evening, we grilled steaks and had a feast. I baked desserts for the guests we were expecting later in the evening. I made my dad's strawberry jello cake that he loves and an ice-cream sandwich cake that my sister loves.

Our party included:the four of us, my sister's family of four, my mom and dad, my in-laws, Mark and Mackenzie, Tim and Jen, and my cousin Kelly. For the first time since we have lived here, we joined the "natives" in the craziness and went wild! We blew up the sky with loud, colorful fireworks. I hope we do a repeat of this next year. It was a lot of fun.
